Lots of queer representation is based on middle class white people. Fetishing the gay white best friend, while ignoring real gay issues. Coming out is seen as being a huge deal, showing heteronormative. The logic of coming out is premised on the fact that we assume everyone"s straight. Pressure of telling parents, with their validation being valued: queer theory. Sexualities not just determined by sex of desired partner. Sex acts mean different things to different people. Sex as key to gender identity for some, not for others. Queer theory: sexuality as subjective, sexuality is not based on sex of partners. Challenges both, because it says there shouldn"t be any norms within: sexual double standard sexuality. Paradox for women where they are made responsible for male"s sexuality but denied of their sexual desires. The sexual equivalent of the patriarchal dividend. Ongoing everyday conflation of violence and sex.
