Module 1 - effective teaching and good teachers. Need to understand how learning occurs and how teachers can facilitate learning. We all have ideas about teachers based on our experiences. With newcomers coming in canada, more visible minorities so avg in canada will change in terms of how teachers is seen, etc esp since teaching force is very homogeneous. Schools in disadvantaged areas will need to find ways to help ppl w low ses backgrounds. A posi teacher-student relationship in kindergarten predicts posi academic & behavioural outcomes (thru grade 8) even when gender, ethnicity, cog abilities & behavioural ratings were controlled still predicted aspects of school success. Teacher qualification & training (based on teacher certification) = posi correlated to math and reading outcomes. Learners also want their teachers to be flexible and adaptable in their teaching, & to cater to their learning needs.
