Technology-based training is proving to be the demise of more traditional classroom methods of training. Training delivered on cd-roms would be an example of e-learning. Synchronous training is training that is pre-recorded and available to employees at any time and from any location. Games typically provide entertaining but ineffective training experiences. A major advantage of distance learning for students is the ability to control the pace and place of learning. A training program with a chat feature that trainees use to log in at a pre-determined time is an example of synchronous training. Difficulty in providing feedback to trainees is a major disadvantage of technology-based training. A disadvantage of technology-based training is that it does not always have to be instructor-led. Computer literacy and self-efficacy are essential in order for trainees to benefit from technology-based training. An electronic performance support system is simply a modern version of a performance aid.
