If you are aware of you and your sensations and perceptions, you are dealing with that realm of the mind. The mind has language and its own level of analysis. That level of analysis isn"t necessarily predicted by the brain areas that are underlying. Ancient humoral doctrine (attributed to hippocrates, 5th century bce) Four humors(substances): blood, yellow bile, black bile, phlegm. When these substances in the body would go up and down, this reflected changes in temperament or mood. Opposite of humorous and passionate: phlegm associated w/ water phlegmatic, calm to the point of sluggishness (pilots and firefighters are like this). Lived in the ottoman empire so he was able to cut into bodies and give us an entire description of the cns long before europeans could cut into bodies. Gave entire map of brain, sensory & motor nerves. Gave the nerves & brain cognitive capacity.
