Second world War immigration causes:
*1914 – considered the end of a century in Europe, it is when the end of the Congress of Vienna
occurred, which started in 1815
Congress of Vienna = an international agreement to ensue that no European power would
invade another, created after Napoleon
This ended with the start of WW1
September. 1, 1939 – when things started to de-escalate
~Paris Peace Conference – 1919
negotiaitions after WW1
Germany, Ottoman Empire, Austro-Hungary, France
France, the primary winners. Decided to impose The Treaty of Versailles on Germany, another
winner. There was an article accusing Germany of WW1 (Germany pushed Austria to war)

German Liberal Estate
protected freedom of expression
Germany making liberal progress at this time
however, resentment grew toward army members who fought in WW1, held them responsible
for their punishment that was the Treaty of Versailles which set limits on the Germans *look
into restrictions more
Japan and Italy were induced to join war against Germany with Britain -

Italy doesn't believe they were getting what they were promised
the League of Nations was discussed

guaranteed racial equality
was met with scorn by racists toward Asian culture
(Japan got less for its victory than the European victors)
the fallout of the Paris Peace Conference caused lots of betrayal from Germany -

China was brought to it knees by Europeans in the late 1900s, thus, Japanese officials began to
modernize – they built their own battleships, industrialized, collected colonies (starting w/
Taiwan) in order to compete with Great Britain

made up of young men in the military primarily
believed that in order to restore Japan's national honour, they had to stand up to the westerners

by military men
these men hated “traitors to their own government

army men hated this. They believed the government to
their enemy

the young army men felt they were causing the Japanese to suffer

Japanese heavily invested in Manchuria
1931 – junior officers blow up a section of a railway and blame it on Japan, and the Tokyo gov't
promoted this when they learned of it (?)
1932 – Japan grants Manchuria independence – ruled by Manchuko Puuji
