Philosophy 1106: exam 1: wittgenstein claims games form a family because games display family resemblances. He defines games show many traits and similarities but do not make them completely the same. Although there may be many traits like cousins or siblings in a family, they make up a large family which consists of those many cousins or siblings. Wittgenstein believes there is no true definition to games because of the many similarities and differences which are in variance with each other: according to suits, there are four elements to playing a game. There must the prelusory goal; a specific achievable state of affairs which can be described independently of any game. The lusory means; the means that are permitted in the attempt to achieve the prelusory goal. The constitutive rules; the prohibitions of means useful in achieving the prelusory goals.
