The food price index has been subjected to fluctuations: between 1974 and 2005 food prices fell by two thirds and since 2005 prices have jumped by 75% in real terms. In 2008 we were facing agflation (combination of agriculture and inflation ): food prices rise more than the prices of other goods and services due to the growing demand for crops1 as both food and for biofuels2.
