Endosperm : in the embryo and provides nutrition in the form of starch, though it can also contain oils and protein. Cotyledons : embryo within the seed of a plant. May become the embryonic first leaves of a seedling. Endospermic: embryo is small relative to the rest of the seed. This is used up at the time of germination. Micropyle: a small opening in the integuments of the ovule through which sperm are able to access the ovum. Hilum: the eye of a bean or other seed; the mark or scar at the point of attachment of an ovule or seed to its base or support. Apomixis: plant reproduction without fertilization, meiosis, or the production of gametes. Polyembryony: the production of two or more embryos in one seed. due either to the existence and fertilization of more than one embryonic sac or to the origination of embryos outside of the embryonic sac.
