Why communications policy matters in the era of trump and trudeau. Communications policy has a strong in uence on social behaviour. Rules (governing structure, statutes, regulations, court decisions) that limit or empower who/ what gets to express to whom/what and who/what gets access to that expression. A powerful e ect upon something, but not necessarily, or by itself, determinative. Us: vote for electors that stand in place of the president. Trump is a construction of himself as a result of communications policies. Reality tv itself isn"t real (real vs performed) Therefore, the construction of trump"s success was parlayed (no talk of his bankruptcy) Coverage of trump was more than others because he was a spectacle. Gave him legitimacy he wouldn"t have had otherwise. Looks and familiarity with people (hugging, looking at people in the eye) Test hypothesis: compare communications policy with two similar countries. Taxes go to healthcare in canada and to military in the us.
