Document Summary

Compare, contrast, and critically evaluate aristotle and hume on these questions (both their answers and their arguments). He does maintain that there is such a thing as having your desires and emotions under control of or in line with reason. Those who are virtuous are those whose behaviors and emotions are most in accordance with reason. Therefore having one desires in line with reason is a goal of the virtuous person. Reason - two groups, things which are impervious to reason (involuntary bodily functions), things which are entirely performed by reason (math, logic etc. Then there is a middle ground of behaviors or actions which are heavily influenced by our emotions but are guided and are under control of reason. If you are a virtuous person your reason and desires in line with what deems appropriate. They can be contrary to reason=not virtuous. Desires and feelings are not capable of being guided or in line with reason.
