Document Summary

The issue of abortion is one that is surrounded by much controversy with a wide array of philosophers offering varying perspectives on the topic. Thomson has argued that abortion is sometimes permissible, because of a woman"s right to choose what happens with their body which sometimes outweighs the fetus"s right to life. I will explain his argument for this and provide the thought experiment that he uses to support it. I will also be discussing beckwith"s objections to the thought experiment that thomson provides and i will be pointing out the problems that it raises for thomson. As stated above, thomson argues that abortion is sometimes permissible because a woman"s right to choose what happens to her body sometimes outweighs the fetus"s right to life. Opponents of abortion argue that because every person has a right to life, the fetus has a right to life.
