Chapter 5: political culture, political participation, and political socialization. Definition: fundamental political values, beliefs and orientations that are widely held within a political community. Ways to observe: sample surveys that test for various politically relevant attitudes. There are general similarities among groupings of nations with similar backgrounds, traditions and beliefs. Development along with globalization may reduce the differences in political culture. One way to describe political culture of a community is in terms of its dominant ideological perspectives. Ex: usa is describes as a classical liberal since it combines protection for its rights and freedoms of individuals with a free market economy. The reason there are several parties with different views is due to colonization of immigrants from great britain with liberal ideologies. Canada as well, colonization of immigrants from the usa that fled after the war of independence brought with them conservatism.
