The book madumo: a man bewitched written by adam ashford about his experiences during his time living in soweto, south africa as he became a part of in. Soweto regular life through close knit family and friends that became like brothers. The tale is a true story about a friend of ashford"s dubbed madumo in the book. The book is a following of madumo"s story as he is persecuted through beliefs of witchcraft and is struggling to free himself from the cursed life he seems to lead. Although it is not specifically fieldwork, it is based from experiences from ashford himself and madumo from the 1990"s onward, following closely the issues of the implications lasting from apartheid on the culture in soweto, south africa. Many of the implications of apartheid result in a fracture of the culture and a steering towards western culture while the old traditions and ancestors are forgotten until times of need.
