Ecology: abiotic environment comprised of non-living attributes (e. g. humidity, temperature, rainfall, climate conditions, rock), biotic environment comprised of living attributes (e. g. living organisms including predators, prey, plants). Depressions with stagnant bodies of water; unproductive habitat. Carnivorous plants, moss, sometimes can support trees. Non-woody plants (e. g. cattails, aquatic plants, fish), no trees. Wetland losses: 64-71% of the world"s wetlands have disappeared since 1900, drained for commercial development including agricultural lands, drained for pest management. Estuary: freshwater drains into the ocean, freshwater and saltwater meet, fluctuating salt levels. Estuary degradation: habitat destruction, excessive nutrient and sewage inputs. Introduced species: chemical contamination, rising sea levels. Very low avg. temp. , high var. var. var. Cold tolerant shrubs and low- lying plants; hardly any trees.
