Interpretation is everything: reality only comes into being through what the world means to us individually: relies on concrete experience over abstract principle, knowing the outcome of one"s experience will be relative, rather than universal, common themes/techniques used in postmodernist writing, irony, play: postmodernist writers deal with serious subject matter in a playful mood (black humour, intertextuality: the relationship between 2 similar texts, pastiche: means to combine 2 things; may be combination of 2 genres, metafiction: writing about writing, temporal distortion: fragmentation; jump between time periods, magic realism: realistic narrative combined with elements of dream or fantasy, technoculture & hyperreality: shift from industrial age to technological age (matrix, paranoia: belief that there"s an ordering system in the world, maximalism: novel that is disorganized, sterile and much language play, empty of emotional coefficient, minimalism: only analyze most basic and necessary pieces of a story.
