Planning and management are related to the philosophies processes and products for resources and environmental management; we don"t manage the environment, we manage our own interactions with it. This requires sensitivity for different values, needs and wants; the awareness of best practices enables the examination of the degree of success, development of solutions, and consideration of how science can best serve environmental management. It"s important to have a short-term view which is for less than 5 years, middle-term view for 5-15 years, and long-term view for more than 15 years. You should be able to identify actions taken in short and middle term; enviro systems often change slowly but also suddenly. Many problems have developed over long time span and cannot be changed; you need patience. Short term view = caused by short term b/w elections and other terms of office; long-time frame needed to change attitudes; long term commitment.
