What is precipitation? any form of water that falls from a cloud + reaches the ground liquid/solid water crystals that fall from the atmosphere to the ground surface it is driven by the same processes that drive cloud formation. Process may start quickly through convective heating + dissipation. Most precipitation is formed through accretion + rain begins as ice. Warm clouds have a temperature profile >0 degree c. As it rises, it cools which forces condensation and creates droplets of their formation begins when saturated air rises rapidly water in the cloud. As more condensation is added, the drops grow until they reach a diameter of 50 to 100 micrometers. The droplets are carried aloft in the rising cloud + they collide/coalesce with each other (building up drops that are about 1000-5000 micrometers)
