Contributed to the literary tradition by writing a book describing the known world. Mapped the known world at the time: the mediterranean region and adjacent areas in europe, asia, and africa. Took scienti c view of the world and successfully predicted an eclipse of the sun in 585 bce. 5th century bce knew the earth was sphere.
