Non modifiable: sex, age, ethnicity, family history. Modifiable: smoking, diet, pa, alcohol, stress, hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity/overewight. Premenopausal testosterone levels higher testosterone = higher risk: testosterone possibly reduces hdl. Post menopausal hypertension: a lot of postmenopausal women (~75%) are hypertensive. Stress and depression 2x more likely than males to have anxiety disorders: increased cortisol can affect cvd risk and indirectly if stressed/depressed, could be breeding ground to develop poorer habits. Low risk-factor awareness not being aware of risk factors if you don"t know you wont do anything about it. Most canadian women have at least 1 risk factor. Cumulative effect as you develop more risk factors, rr for cvd increases. Women more frequently show atypical or non-hallmark symptoms.
