Without the awareness of the conscious mind, the unconscious mind freely expresses its emotions. Because unconscious emotions are uncontrollable, dreams are an automatic representation of neural synapses that proceed as one sleeps. Humans visualize images in their dreams that they may not even consciously imagine, and they often believe these images and sensations have a deep meaning, but this is not necessarily true. Neural activities and the biological nature of the human mind lead to emotional interpretations of dreams. The brain is unconsciously active while humans sleep. While the human mind is awake, it is aware, and thus able to control where to focus attention. However, the mind wanders as one sleeps, and this control is lost. The brain is unconsciously active and therefore no control over brain activity is withheld. Rapid eye movement (rem) occurs around 90 minutes after an individual falls asleep, and occurs for an approximate 90 minute time period.
