Neo-realism emerged based on challenges to the classical realist point of view because of trends towards rationalism. Rather than facings on human nature or the nature of state, neo-realism takes a structural approach that emphasis the role of anarchy at the stem level. Advanced nuclear strategy: preemptive strike: the strategic use of nuclear weapons when an opponent is perceived to have made moves to use them first. Nuclear escalation: a cycle of attacks, responses, retaliations growing in intensity and magnitude: mutually assured destruction (mad): a situation where the threat of nuclear retaliation is so severe as to guarantee that all parties will be utterly destroyed.
