Outside the box was a dish of food: provided motivation for cats to escape behaviours were observed and escape time was recorded predicted that after the first time the cat accidentally pulled the rope, they would pull the string almost immediately on future trials, proved wrong found that the frequency of the random behaviours gradually decreased over time, proposed that animals follow a simple stimulus response type process with little credit for consciousness (long trial and error process) unlike humans.
