Men live a mother dominated/father absent child care existence for their children. In the public sector, real men judge each other"s job in terms of power, pay and control. People who have the corner desk are more powerful than those in cubicles, center and with no window. Men define themselves vis a vis others. Fears due to stress cluster in five areas: physical inadequacy- always trying to work out. Physically dominant: emotional inexpressiveness- afraid to crack, to show that soft side feminine side, subordination to women- women telling you what to do in the work place. Intellectual inferiority- what if you"re in the law firm and there"s a clever women who can figure things out: performance failures in the work and sex- if you"re not moving up and all your buddies are moving up. Men still enforce strong sex roles amongst children. Women"s position in the traditional family is one of economic dependence.
