Document Summary

The study of statistics related to human populations such as population size, density, distribution, movement, and births and deaths is called demography. Starting in the 1700s, technological advances dramatically affected human population growth and changed it from a logistic growth pattern to an exponential growth pattern. Some of these technological advances included: improved agricultural methods. Breakthroughs in medicine improved food storage and shelter. For the last 300 years, the human population growth rate has been about 2% each year. One way to calculate population growth is to calculate a population"s doubling time . In recent years, it has been reduced to 1. 2%. the time it takes the population to double its number. At a growth rate of 1. 2% per year, the world"s population will double again in about 58 years. However, the human population is not growing uniformly across the globe. Population growth varies from country to country in part because the age structures of the populations vary.
