Place is defined by many things but the connections to place are deep rooted in a sense of identity and culture. Place is more than just the physical, it embodies personality, memories, and belonging. Sacredness: derives from a past event (i. e. wars fought there, birth and death, ancestry) it is the social valuing of place that gives it meaning. Common grounds are often fought over and everything is a battle. Sacred places are defined by how communities define themselves the less cohesive the group the stronger the symbolism of place must be. People want to honour the lives lost in 9/11 and so have deemed that place sacred. Agora- the common meeting place of all people from around the city or area. It is an area that is open for all. Restricted to some in the past (i. e. women and slaves)
