Document Summary

Zone of rigid, britle rock (crust and upper mantle) Major division in the geological ime scale. Moions of the plates and interacion at their boundaries. Moion is powered by the heat of the earth"s inside (convecion) Ridge push: molten rock rises beneath the oceanic lithosphere and lifs the plates and causes them to move away (part of the plate becomes heated and sofened and becomes part of the mantle as slabducion occurs. Spreading boundary: as magma rises it hardens and ills the trenches between two plates pushing the further apart. The harden magma is no an extension of the new plate. Mid-oceanic ridge: the litle hillsih like thing in the ocean rises and the rocks on adjacent sides are the same age. These rocks are also younger as they are created by the volcanic acivity causing the ridge to form. Convergent boundaries: when subducion occurs and the volcanic acivity brings rise to mountains!!
