Document Summary

Due: week 7 (at the beginning of your lab session) Remote sensing i - remote sensing of environment. Red and nir are seen as a dark colour. This is because there is no particles reflecting energy. Due to the visibility of the turbid water the red image is much better for looking at clear water. Water tends to have higher visible reflectance in the red portion of the em spectrum than in the nir portion. This image shows that the particles in the red image are reflected at a much higher rate than the nir, making the turbid water much more clear. Since nir is mainly used to analyze vegetation, the area of damp soils and marsh around the water body are easily seen. In the red image, the vegetation of the wetland reflects data too similar to the surrounding green areas. Nir is best for distinguishing the borders of the land, water, and wetlands.
