Europe was mostly like this -> the nobles and monarchs all knew each other (arranged marriages, visits) Subjects vs citizens common person never saw politics as a duty (cid:862)politi(cid:272)al st(cid:396)atifi(cid:272)atio(cid:374)(cid:863) Time was cyclical -> work from sunrise sundown -> life as cycle of birth and death. Year punctuated by church celebrations => religions created their yearly calendar. History was local and a series of stories passed through the generations. Often understood very little outside their town/village.
