Document Summary

Homeostasis: ability of organism to regulate internal conditions commonly through (-) feedback loops regardless of external enviro. Intracellular fluid (icf): fluid contained w/i all body cells. Internal environments outside cells (icf) but w/i body and external enviro is outside body. Icf: made up of 2 components, plasma fluid portion of blood. Interstitial fluid surrounds and bathes cells: cells makes exchanges with surrounding internal enviro and other body systems transfer materials b/w external and internal enviro so that composition of internal enviro maintained. Functions performed by body systems contribute to homeostasis thereby maintaining internal enviro and making survival of cells possible. Homeostasis is essential for surivival of each cell and each cell, through specialized activities, contributes as part of a body system to the maintenance of internal envrio by shared cells. November 3, 2015: adjust kidney function to control internal enviro volume and electrolyte composition, reproductive, not essential for homeostasis.
