Agency- in social science literature agency is used to refer both to the human action that makes something happen and to the capacity of such action. The idea of agency is often contrasted with the idea of impersonal causes (historical, economic etc. ) over which human actors have little control. Hence the frequent use of the combined term structure- agency in situations where it is not clear whether the primary causes are impersonal background factors or human actions. Authority- legitimate power in the sense that the individual or group exercising it is regarded as having the right to do so. Balance of power- a system of relations between states in which the goal is to maintain equilibrium of power (usually military and economic), thus preventing the dominance of any one state. Behaviouralism- an approach to the study of social phenomena based on the methods used in the natural sciences.
