Uses the same criteria as an intelligence test (validity, reliability, standardization) Objective tests: mmpi-2 asks people a series of true/false questions about themselves, neo personality inventory measures five factors based on what people say. Projective tests: the rorschach test allows a person to project his personality onto the inkblot and then describe what they see. The trait approach classifies and describes psychological characteristics by which people differ consistently. The goal for trait theorists is to find a small set of meaningful traits that can effectively describe the personality of any individual. They came up with 16 different traits through factor analysis. It has now been narrowed down to five. In support of cattell, researchers have concluded that just five personality dimensions best capture all personality types.
