Discuss whether it is possible to separate the influences of nature and nurture on development. Present at birth and not learned from experience. Almost all behaviour results from both nature and nurture. Dna: genetic material that is organized into structures called chromosomes that are in the nucleus of every cell. Chromosomes: comes in pairs (23 in humans); due to sperm and egg cells undergoing sexual reproduction through meiosis. 23rd pair made up of x and y chromosomes. Almost all males have xy pair, women xx pair. Egg can have only an x chromosome ( as female mother has 2 x"s) Any given sperm can contain either x or y chromosome determining sex of offspring (dad) Genes: regions of the chromosomes that encode particular proteins locus: point on chromosome where particular gene is located. Homozygous: genes at the same locus are the same.
