Document Summary

W5 psyc 100 neuroscience: the neuron learning outcomes a)explain how the structure of the nervous system determines behaviour. Not the study of behaviour; though it impact behaviour. Compare and contrast the divisions of the nervous system (cns vs. pns, etc. : central nervous system (cns) Includes nerves from spinal cord and from sensory organs of the head. That transmit sensory information from the body to the cns. Also transmit motor and other commands in the other direction, from the cns to muscles, glands and internal organs. Controls various muscles (e. g. leg muscles), relating motor commands from brain. Sympathetic: promotes fight of flight response, involves high arousal/alertness, mobilizes the body for rapid energy expenditure and inhibits digestion. Parasympathetic: promotes rest and digest response, enhances internal processes related to the digestion of food. Controls involuntary muscles (e. g. heart and diaphragm) and many internal organs (e. g. viscera) important in maintaining homeostasis.
