Infer mental representations (stored info) & processes (a program that takes info as input, transforms it as output: artificial intelligence: ability of computer to perform tasks usually associated with human intelligence. Involved in determining goal/intention behind action: response of neurons possibly determined by sequence of motor activities that could be expected to happen in particular context. Outcomes of attention: covert attention: occurs when attention shifted without moving eyes see out corner of eyes. Improves ability to respond to location: posner experiment using precueing (procedure in which participants given cue that will usually help carry out subsequent tasks) Investigated by either cuing correctly or incorrectly to see how fast they respond. If cued towards valid location then respond quicker, if cues towards invalid location then respond slower.
