Saussure introduced that language is chess and speech is a game of chess. Language is like: chess - including its history, rules, patterns etc. Speech is like: any particular game of chess being played out. Sebeok helped up to understand the difference between speech and communication. Speech is only one kind of communication: piano. Chomsky introduced the idea of infinite sounds and phrases. A small and limited amount of sound and speech can create an infinite amount of speech/communication. The 88 keys, history, theory etc if the keyboard are language. Any particular song being played on the keyboard is speech. Originally thought there was one god-given language. An egyptian pharaoh wanted to see what the original god-given language was so he isolated children on an island with a mute shepherd and goats. When the children spoke, they said something along the line of bekos , meaning bread in phrygian.
