Disability studies study of disabled people. Understanding disability as social/cultural phenomenon: disability = creative, a sign of belonging. We often encounter disability representation through media, but not irl - therefore, we do not really have a direct experience / accurate representations of disability: media texts are constructed to teach us about disability. People with disabilities options are limited to what history o ers (narrative prosthesis) There shouldn"t be one dominant image of disability - there should be many images / many ways to represent disability. The idea perpetuated in media that those with disability are su ering, not whole: eg: autism speaks movie. Please like this picture of my disabled sibling/relative . Corporations collecting likes to make a pro t. Diverts attention away from what being disabled is actually like, so that able-bodied viewers don"t have to worry about it: disability can be overcome seen as an obstacle.
