Document Summary

The earth was already going through a period of global cooling otherwise known as a little ice age. The year before, in april of 1815, mount tambora in indonesia erupted, causing ash and gases, notably sulphur to spew into the atmosphere. A lot of the ashes even travelled 12 cubic miles past the eruption site. Thus, causing sunlight to be reflected and in some areas, blocked all together. It was the largest volcanic eruption on earth in the last 10,000 years rating a high 7 on the vei scale. For the next few months, the dust cloud travelled and engulfed a large portion of the earth, the lack of sunlight is what caused for even more severe cold weather. The consequences of the year without summer were fatal. As the sulphur scattered through the earth, a red wavelengths of the sun could be seen in britain, that beauty was the last that would be seen for months.
