Group: human communication system composed of three or more individuals, interacting for the achievement of some common goal(s) who influence and are influenced by each other. Behavior of one group member influences the behaviour and responses of other group members. Membership in groups is unavoidable and universal. 2 types: primary group: group that has informal structure and close personal relationships. Life long influence on self identity and social behaviours. Membership is automatic, voluntary, and open ended. Family, relationships, friends etc: secondary group: group that has prescribed structure, designated leader, specific goals and is less personalized, time limited relationships (established beginning and end) Join to meet personally established goals, develop knowledge and skills or because it is a requirement by the larger community system. Nurses are expected to interact and collaborate with other professionals in health care teams. 2 types of health care teams: intraprofessional team: a team made up from same profession.
