Group role functions: roles that relate to the type of member contributions needed to achieve group goals. 2 types: task functions: behaviors members use to move toward goal achievement, maintenance functions: behaviours designed to ensure personal satisfaction. Needs to be a balance between both functions to increase group productivity. When task functions predominate member satisfaction decreases.
