The facial nerve (cranial nerve vii) carries the efferent message that stimulates the blink. Cranial nerve iii, the oculomotor nerve, innervates all the other nerves. Visual acuity: using the snellen eye chat (with letters decreasing in size). And with an opaque card covering one eye, ask the patient to say the seen letters. Pupillary light reflex: the normal constriction of the pupils when bright light shines on the retina. Corneal light reflex: assess the parallel alignment of the eye by shining a light toward the patient"s eyes.
