End of life (eol) care: used to describe care provided in the last days or weeks of life, eol care focuses on physical and psychological needs at the end of life for the pt. and the patie(cid:374)t"s fa(cid:373)ily. It is estimated that only 5% of canadians receive integrated and interdisciplinary eol care. Palliative care is an approach that improves the quality of life of pts. and their families facing problems associated with life-threatening illness. Goals for eol care: provide comfort and supportive care during the dying process, help ensure a dignified death. Strategies to improve eol care includes: service delivery by interdisciplinary teams, patient access and availability to services, professionals skills in pain and symptom management, provision of support for caregivers and family members. Death: occurs when all vital organs are systems cease to function.
