The scientific study of the mind, brain, and behaviour. In an attempt to understand, predict, and in some cases control human behaviour. Outcomes may vary on different situations and variables. Its about discovering the truth and investigating both sides. The belief that we see the world as it is. Five main challenges of psychology: human behaviour is too difficult to predict. Actions are multiply determined by groups, personal level: predictors are rarely independent. With multiply determined factors, those factors in turn influence each other. People differ from each other in thinking, emotion, personality, and behaviour. Reciprocal determinism: we mutually influence each tohers behaviour: culture. Etic (perspective of an observer from the outside) The careful reflective and systematic observation of the details of mental processes and how simple thoughts combine into complex ideas. The goal is to describe observable mental processes rather than to explain, predict, or control.
