Social psychology - seeks to understand and explain how people"s thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are influenced by actual, imagined, or implied presence of others. Social cognition - the way in which people perceive and interpret themselves and others in their social world. Culture - set of values, beliefs, or attitudes shared by most members of a community. Individualistic cultures - individual goals and wishes are przed above duty to and relations with others. Collectivist cultures - harmony with one"s group is prized above individual goals and wishes. Attitudes - stable and enduring evaluations of things and people. Central route to persuasion - focuses on content and logic to change attitudes. Peripheral route to persuasion - focuses on superficial information to change attitudes (eg. appearance) Source - knowledgeable, likeable, presents both sides to an issues. Door-in-the-face - ask for something big knowing you will get turned down, then ask for something smaller you really wanted.
