Foraging societies do not keep statistics on productivity or income per capita, so it is hard to know when they are making economic progress. This is especially true for prehistoric societies where only archaeological evidence is available. Define the concept of progress in a way that would make sense to an economist, and explain what data could be used to determine whether a pre-agricultural society was progressing over long time periods. Your suggestions should correspond to data that archaeologists could realistically obtain.
