Established 1st independent psychology lab at university of leipzig 1879. Date of independent psychology emerged as own discipline. Established first research lab in us at john hopkins 1883. Task of psych analyze consciousness into basic elements & investigate relationship among those elements. Break down into fundamental elements (sensations, feelings etc. ) Brought a way of studying what occured internally introspection. Psyc should investigate the function/purpose of conscious. Exist only b/c they help us to survive.
