The hypnosis intervention reduced the anxiety associated with procedure. However, pain scores between the control and experimental group did not signi cantly differ. Brief hypnosis during the procedure process reduces patient anxiety during bone marrow aspirates and biopsies but may not adequately control pain. This indicates that the sensory component of the pain experience is not as important as the affective component. Bone marrow aspiration and biopsy (painful procedures) play an important role in diagnosis and the follow-up of haematological disorders. According to cancer patients, medical procedures are a source of physiological and psychological stress. Needle procedures cause pain and distress for oncology patients.
