Different types of criminal or deviant behaviour can be distinguished by the degree of public agreement about the wrongfulness of the act. Types of criminal/ deviant behaviour [consensus crimes, conflict crimes, social deviations] Conflict crimes: involves the use of moral standards, debated if they are harmful to society, ex. / marijuana use, gambling. Social deviation: when these acts occur, something has been violated in society, though it may not be in the criminal code, deviating from the norm. Learn to conform to the norms of society through socialization. Nonconformity only becomes deviance when it produces a negative social reaction. Involves social effort by the public to change the efforts of the nonconforming individual. Refers to techniques and strategies to prevent deviant behaviour in a group or in society.
