Crime has been going down steadily for 27 years (since 1991); we"re at our lowest point since 1973. The media would lead us to believe that crime is going up because it sells. The absolute biggest reason why people get involved in crime is demographics (people aged 12-24) 80% of crime is committed by 12-24 year olds. So: if we got rid of everyone aged 12-24 tonight, crime would drop 80%. The more people you have between the ages in 12-24, the more crime you are going to have. Was concerned that the media was a main source of knowledge remember this is the 60"s, before social media, twitter, facebook, etc. Family, friends, media, religion, govt are all non-legitimate sources of information. Education is the only legitimate source of information. Moral panic: a cycle created by the media that causes fear throughout society.
