Document Summary

Psych 105: individual and social behaviour (04th february 2019)- lecture 13. Voluntary immigrants are those who migrate willingly to a different place. Involuntary immigrants migrate because of an external force like natural disaster, war. Involuntary immigrants are considered inferior by the dominant majority e. g. buraku outcasts in japan. Buraku outcasts performed poorly in academics in japan but when they immigrated to usa, they performed as well as their dominant counterparts who immigrated from japan too. They perform equally as good when the correct academic environment and equal facilities are given to them, again showing at assumptions made only by heredity is not right in this case. No sharp guiding line between science and observations we make in everyday life. We tend to begin with data (our senses e. g. see, hear) We use the data to make inferences about the social world. Science makes the same thing more controlled/ systematic; more certain about which variable has which effect.
