Two locations - greek mainland (sparta, mycenae on the peloponnesian peninsula) and anatolian peninsula (troy - excavation of troy from schliemann on hissarlik, found remains of ancient troy on a wide open plain. He found 11 cities, 11 phases of construction) 11 major phases of building in troy. Many layers of troy, but the one most interesting was troy vii (7) - 1300 - Evidence that it was destroyed by fire in 1200 bc. Need epigraphic evidence (written evidence) to say definitively it is troy. To the ancient greeks, troy was real enough that it guided their beliefs (historic greeks based much of their worldview and personal identity on the facts that these events were real)
